Extraordinary Journeys celebrates Earth Day and African Cats

Earth Day is having a birthday. It’s been 41 years since April 22nd was first celebrated as the day on which members of earth’s dominant species—humans—could express their commitment to the planet’s continued wellbeing.

Extraordinary Journeys has learned of a fitting Earth Day 2011 tribute to life in an area of the planet where, instead of being covered with concrete and tall buildings, the natural surface of the world is visible in all of its biological and geological diversity. That place is Africa, a part of the world that we know well and which we honor through our commitment to partnerships with only the most enlightened, eco-friendly efforts.

On Earth Day, Disneynature will release a wildlife documentary—African Cats—that was filmed in Kenya’s Maasai-Mara between August 2008 and October 2010. For over two years, the filmmakers followed two separate feline families, a cheetah with five cubs and a lioness and her offspring. As parents everywhere recognize, and as the film’s subtitle—Kingdom of Courage—suggests, it can be a daunting task to prepare offspring for life as adults. The filmmakers record the threats to survival their subjects face in a savannah environment, but they also include the beauty and wonder to be found there.

There is much to enjoy and learn from watching African Cats, but as an additional incentive, between April 22 and 28, Disneynature has pledged to make a donation of $0.20 to the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) for each ticket sold, with a guaranteed minimum contribution of $100,000.00. EJ Africa encourages you to go to the following website for more information about the film and the opportunity to watch the trailer: http://disney.go.com/disneynature/africancats.

EJ Africa wishes you extraordinary and meaningful experiences on April 22nd, Earth Day 2011.

We have partnered with Jetsetter and are organizing a special safari. We will be donating $100 to the Mara Predator project for each person we book.
